Introduction The college has more than 130
outstanding faculty members, including 21 professors and 41 associate
professors. And our celebrated subject leaders are specially engaged
academician Prof. Zhao Ermi, Prof. Luo Peng, Prof. Liang Houguo, Prof. Liu
Shigui, Prof. Zhang Yizheng, Prof. Cheng Fang, Prof. Xiu Jiemei, and Prof.
Yang Zhirong etc. Key
Subjects Our Botany and Resource Biology are two
national key subjects. They show our superiority in scholar team, talent
culturing, researching condition and achievement. The National Base for Talent Training
In 1993, the National Base for Talent on Fundamental Biology
and Teaching was founded under the permission of Chinese government. In
2002, the National Base for Talent Training on Life Sciences and
Technology was also set up. The excellent
students in the base can pursue their bachelor, Master and Doctor degrees
continuously, with the ratio of students entering graduate program being
60%. Every student in the base is assigned an academic advisor. The course
system and content have been reformed greatly and bilingual teaching,
auxiliary teaching of computers and multi-media teaching are emphasized. A
special base scholarship has been established for the students of the
base. Key Laboratory of
Biocontrol Engineering, the Ministry of Education
Its research area
mainly covers the biological control of voles and insects, prevention of
parasite and disease in oxen and sheep, the study and applications of
resources plant on grassland. Sichuan
Key Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
The research of this key lab focuses chiefly on the construction and application of important gene pool, gene cloning and expression of some industrial enzymes related to environmental bioremediation, and the construction of genetic map of Chinese herbal medicine. Sichuan
Key Laboratory of Resource Biology and Biopharmaceutical Engineering
The research of this key lab focuses mainly on the basic
research of the important biological resources, the key technology of
sustainable utilization of medicinal resources, and the exploitation of
Chinese herbal medicine. Sichuan Key Laboratory
of Breeding and Genetic Protection of Endangered Animals The main goal of this lab is to study the evolution,
reproduction and conservation of endangered wild life. Sichuan
Key Laboratory of Microbiological Resource and Technology
The main task of
this key lab is the research of the microbiological resources on the
fundamental theory and their application in industry, agriculture,
pharmaceutical industry and environment protection. In addition, 7 more research centers related to life
sciences have been set up in our college.
Undergraduate
Teaching Center of Basic Biology, Sichuan University
This center was founded in 1995. It undertakes most of the
laboratory sessions for the undergraduate students. It was financially
aided by the special-purpose loan from the World Bank in 1999. In 2000, it
was named the Sichuan Model Base for Undergraduate Teaching Center of
Basic Biological by Sichuan Province government. |
Library Our college library
houses more than 27000 books and 14000 magazines. It has an automatic
management system of the books, and you can inquire about the book
catalogue in long-range through the internet. The library stores
biological teaching materials, softwares and compact discs, which are
published aboard recently. Field Practice
Base
Heizhugou area in Ebian county of Sichuan province has
extraordinary landform sight. It is one of the most outstanding areas for
its bio-diversity because it has primitive habits, fine environment,
special climate, and abundant species. The local government and Sichuan
University launched the Ebian Heizhugou Biological Field Practice Base.
Now, we have finished the research project of the UNESCO, the Protection
and Continual Utilization of the Bio-diversity of the Heizhugou Area in
Ebian County of Sichuan Province.
Botanical Specimen
Museum
Botany Specimen
Museum of Sichuan University was founded in 1935. It has more than 500,000
samples, more than 1000 samples among which are model specimens of newly
founded species. The quantity of the collection is the most abundant among
the universities in China. Zoological Specimen
Museum
The earliest
specimen in the Zoological Specimen Museum was collected in 1908. Now, it
has more than 80,000 pieces of samples which are considered as the most
abundant in the southwestern area of China, and one of the best
collections among all universities in China. Scientific Publication In the recent ten years, the faculty members of our college
have undertaken more than 500 research projects, and won more than 70
awards. The publication in
our college includes more than 1530 periodic papers and 40 monographs.
Twelve national invention patents have been disclosed. The transition and
application of the technology are remarkably successful. We exploited a
vast of new breeds and products of bio-resource which produce more than
100 million RMB for the society. Teaching The teaching achievement is also noticeable. The multi-media
teaching software series of General Biology won the first-class National
Teaching Achievement Award; and the Biology Item Pool for Colleges and
Universities won the first-class Sichuan Teaching Achievement Award.
Now, We have more than 700 undergraduate students, 140
co-cultured students with other three medical universities, and 230
Doctoral and Master graduate students. In the last ten
years, more than 2000 students graduated from our college. Many of them
have the chances to pursue higher degrees. International Cooperation The College of Life
Sciences has frequent academic exchanges and cooperation with foreign
universities and institutes of America, England, German, Italy, Australia,
and Japan. The college engages a few of professors oversea. There are
dozens of distinguished scholars were invited to give lectures every year.
We have also sent more than 10 exchanging students and visiting scholars
